The
very first church business meeting (Jerusalem council) was a contentious
affair, and for good reason. At odds
were those who insisted circumcision was required to follow Jesus, and those
who insisted otherwise.
After
no small debate, they declared the bris non-essential. The subsequent “all church” memo reflected
their sincerest apology.
The
men rejoiced.
