READ: Acts 4:23-31
All
ancient Jesus-followers agree that prayer is essential in nurturing
any worthwhile relationship with God.
James said The prayer of
a righteous person is powerful and
effective.1 Paul repeatedly instructs, Be
joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 2 He charges:
Pray without
ceasing! 3
Their
unified appeal resonates when we observe Peter alongside the other adventurers
as they pray for their city. Though the
“powers and authorities” were stubbornly resistant to new life, the prayer of
Jesus’ followers was power enough to “shake” the city and “fill” each pray-er
with Spirited boldness.

1. James 5:16
2. Romans 12:12
3. 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Describe
your prayer connection in recent months:
- Drip
- Slow leak
- Steady flow
- Gushing fountain
- Flood
For
what do you need to pray “please”?
If
your above prayers were answered, how might our city be shaken?
Invitation:
Consider
praying Peter’s prayer throughout today:
“Now, Lord,
consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great
boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through
the name of your holy servant Jesus.”
