Day Fourteen

READ:  Acts 8

Conditions crumbled in Jerusalem after Stephen’s funeral. The Jesus-followers scattered widely.  Jesus-follower Philip first fled north, then south.

In the north, a former Samaritan sorcerer named Simon sought out Philip for an education in the truths about God. He had a mistaken hunch that God’s spirit could be bought and wielded about at will.  Philip took him under wing and helped get his heart and mind straight.

In the south, Philip met a financially-savvy servant of the queen.  He was eager, but struggled to understand the Scriptures.  Philip invested the time to teach and baptize him.

Each episode ended in much prayer and rejoicing. The Story, however, was just getting started.

Involving “Jerusalem, and all Judea, and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” still lay ahead.

What did Samaritan Simon need from Jesus-follower Philip:

  • tutelage
  • teaching
  • love
  • prayer

How long might it take for Philip to disciple Simon to maturity?

What did the Ethiopian need from Jesus-follower Philip:

  • time
  • tutelage
  • patience
  • teaching
  • love
  • prayer

Do Simon or the Ethopian reflect the kinds of people who live in Earlysville?   Y/N

Does God desire for us to share the good news to our north and south?   Y/N
If so, where specifically?

Invitation:
