READ: Acts2:14-41
Peter
tries to explain God’s spiritual provision to the Pentecost crowd. His speech began with “These folks
are not drunk.” What
a peculiar way to start a description of
God’s people being inspired (literally) with God’s spirit.
Peter
concludes with the assurance that “God has made Jesus both Lord and Christ” v36
When
subsequently asked how a person should respond, Peter insisted two steps would
suffice:
- Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins
- Receive the Holy Spirit to comingle with your spirit (inspire you)
He
insisted that this was true for everyone.
Nearly about 3000 believed him that day.
Do
the Jesus-followers you know ever appear to be so elated (spirited) that they
could be mistaken as drunk?
Have
you ever been spiritually “intoxicated”?
Recount the scenario.
Baptize
means “to dip repeatedly, be immersed, submerged, or overwhelmed” Have you ever been baptized in the name of
Jesus? If not, what are you waiting for?
Invitation:
Ponder
what might result if you allowed your inner life to be overwhelmed (overtaken)
by God’s spirit?
